What MotoGP week actually does to Mandalika — and what it doesn't

The 2025 numbers are public and measured: 100% hotel occupancy, 7,000 rooms booked days out. Here's what that means if you own — or are buying — a rental near the circuit.

The short version

Mandalika hosts the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 9-11 October 2026 — confirmed dates, tickets already on sale. If you own a rental near the circuit, or are deciding whether to buy one, the useful question is not "will this help." It obviously will, for one week. The useful question is what last year's numbers actually measured, and what they do not tell you about the other fifty-one weeks.

What actually happened in 2025

The 2025 edition (3-5 October) is the most recent data point, and it was measured, not estimated. According to Indonesia's Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (menpan.go.id) and coverage of the joint Bappenas–BPS–Bank Indonesia field study (ntbsatu.com):

  • Hotel occupancy in Mandalika itself hit 100%, above nominal capacity; the West Nusa Tenggara Tourism Office recorded a 93% average across the whole of Lombok that weekend, with Mataram at 90%.
  • Roughly 7,000 hotel rooms and homestays across Central Lombok were fully booked from three days before the race (H-3).
  • 140,324 spectators attended the circuit over the weekend.
  • Industry operators reported revenue up 60-80% against a normal period, with over 600 local UMKM (small businesses) involved.
  • National economic circulation was estimated at Rp 4.8-4.96 trillion, per the Bappenas/BI study reported by tvOne and infonasional.com.

That is a genuinely large, well-documented spike — not a marketing estimate.

What it actually buys you

If you already have a place listed on the board, the practical takeaway is narrow and specific: block or price the week of 5-12 October differently than the rest of your calendar, and do it now — presale ticket tiers are already running, which means visitor bookings are already being made. A property with nothing special about it in June can be the only room left in July.

If you are deciding whether to buy near the circuit, the honest reading of the 2025 numbers is that they describe one week, not a yield. A 100% occupancy weekend does not average into a 100% occupancy year — it sits on top of whatever the other fifty-one weeks already do. Work out your real return before treating a MotoGP week as evidence of anything beyond itself.

The other thing changing: the boat, not the bike

Less visible than the race, and arguably more relevant to a five-year hold, is the fast boat pier connecting Mandalika to Sanur, Bali — targeted to open in 2026, cutting the crossing to roughly two hours (Antara News Mataram). A direct sea link to Bali's own visitor volume is a standing source of demand, not a three-day one — if it opens on schedule. "Targeted" is doing real work in that sentence: this is Indonesian infrastructure, and target dates move. Treat it as a reason to watch this corridor, not as a number to price in yet.

What the numbers don't tell you

None of this changes the two things that actually determine whether a Kuta property is a good asset: what you paid for it, and what the paperwork says you actually own. A great October week on a leasehold with no renewal clause is still a lease running out. The guide covers what to check before either number matters.
